WHAT THEY SAY...

Below are a few references from past students.

SALOMIE

Ms Hoskyn was my high school English teacher; she taught me from Checkpoint 3 through till AS level.

The subject did not come naturally to me, I much preferred the sciences and maths in school. With that said, Ms Hoskyn taught it in such a way that I could: firstly, know and understand what was expected of me, secondly, and probably most importantly, she opened my eyes to the beauty of the English language. For example, that we can be creative with word choices and that by using the strategic placement of punctuation, we can bring a complex idea across quite simply. This satisfied the "science-y" side of my brain.  Ms Hoskyn was always patient with me, encouraging and supporting me when I needed it, which was rather often, and this helped me achieve a B symbol in English.

She was a great teacher!

LOUISE

Ms MacKenzie-Hoskyn has been my teacher since I was 12 years old -  from Checkpoint 2 for Art to IGCSE Global Perspectives and English, and AS English. I have now completed my A levels, and through my 13 years of study in the Cambridge system, I can confidently say she is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She has a passion for her work and her students, and she holds us to a high standard; diligently coaching us to reach our fullest potential. In IGCSE, her tutelage allowed me to achieve top in South Africa for English and an A* for Global Perspectives. And I’m not the only one! Many of her other students have also been awarded top in South Africa for both Global Perspectives and English. She has made my time in high school truly special, and she is one of the people I will miss the most when I go to university!

PIETER

I was an English student under Mrs Hoskyn from Grade 9 through to AS Level at McKinlay Reid International School. I thoroughly enjoyed studying English under her fine tutelage and learnt to appreciate the language for its beauty and intricacies. Ms Hoskyn was always willing to assist, guide and explain, resulting in my English studies journey flowing smoothly straight through to the end of my final exam, when I achieved an A symbol.

My years under Ms Hoskyn furthermore made for a truly successful first year of English studies at Stellenbosch University. I couldn't have asked for a better English teacher.
